I have an experience that matches the Pandora charm with the dangle golf ball and the lucky clover bead that is so fresh in my memory. After our wedding we went to Hawaii, the big island for our honeymoon. This was a gift from my sister; she gave us a week in a timeshare. We were so happy to have this experience because we were newlyweds and just paid for our wedding in a different state. We did have to wait seven months after our wedding to go though, to save money. But it all worked out so well; Hawaii was a dream and it is even prettier in person than all the photos we were looking at. My new husband loves to golf but he was not able to bring his own clubs because of the distance we had to travel and the limited luggage we tried to bring! After making a quick stop to Walmart to get some basic clothing and toiletries we were able to enjoy the island. Because we did not have luggage and only our new valuables from walmart we decided to play golf at a nearby resort. My husband has an eye for expensive, name brand things. I have an eye for thrifty priced name brand things; we just went onto the golf course with our regular tennis shoes after purchasing new golf gloves to play, we used rented clubs and were paired up with two elderly gentlemen that played everyday in Hawaii. Needless to report they won; we were spanked by these two professionals but had the best time learning new moves from them. After our eighteen holes were over, we headed back to our room and got ready for dinner. We walked down a small shopping area, this reminded me of the one in Florida when I was out with my friends; we went in every shop and eventually hit one with Pandora charms. My husband found the charm with the dangling golf ball and bought it for himself, but he had no chain to put it on so he let me wear it, I still have it. We kid each other that it’s the closest we’ll get to any ‘gold’ golf ball, besides playing with those old pro’s in Hawaii. So, this charm is nice for us both, I really like it now and do not want to give it to my husband to wear. He is convinced that he can buy a silver chain and wear it as a necklace, or ‘man-lace’ as he has termed!
The lucky clover bead was also purchased in Hawaii, after my new husband bought the dangle golf ball bead for himself I really wanted one for a remembrance from Hawaii. We did finally receive our luggage and then we felt better to go to the beaches, hiking, and more tourist attractions since we now had our full wardrobe for these activities. We had indulged in a helicopter ride around the island. It was kind of scary as those tiny helicopters shake a lot. We took a hike to the middle volcano crater in the early morning to watch the sunrise; this was fun but really strenuous and dark so early in the morning, but worth it; we snorkeled with rented masks in the shallow beaches and saw basic tropical fish, we rode a catamaran around half the island to see bigger tropical fish; and we laid on the beaches. At the end of our week we decided to do a more adventurous task and rented a canoe. We had to tie it to our rental car and drive to a small waterway, paddle the canoe to a hiking trail, and then hike to this waterfall. We were ‘guaranteed’ that it would be simple to find. Well, we did all of this and simple did not describe it. We dropped the canoe while unloading it, we were almost run over by a huge boat on that waterway, we found a trail that was all mud and I fell down a five foot drop off onto a lot of weeds and rocks, we crawled over huge fallen trees and were bitten by a ton of mosquitoes. We eventually did find that waterfall and emerged to witness about twenty other people swimming in the lower pool, they all looked like they had been hand carried there, and my husband and I stood there swollen from all those bites, full of muddy clothes and had a less than happy facial expression. We did swim in the lower pool after all that ‘adventure’ because we felt obligated. The worst part was now back-tracking our path. We did this with less injuries but it took a long time to return that canoe to the rental facility. We just laid in our room for the rest of the night with ice bags on various body parts and emerged the next day for breakfast. I insisted that we head back to the store where we bought his golf ball dangle charm and I knew exactly what I was looking for in a charm; something LUCKY, and that is how I chose the four leaf clover bead in silver. How perfect it was, and still is, to that one day in Hawaii.
