This is a story of your traditional charm bracelet that belonged to a very special grandmother, everyone that knew her called her Meme. She is no longer with us, and I wanted to honor her by telling the story of her charm bracelet. This bracelet is almost seventy years old and holds a lifetime of precious memories. This bracelet was bought by her husband in 1939 and was given to her on their wedding day as a gift on December 18, 1939.
There are eight charms and each one has a very special meaning. The first charm, a wedding charm, says, “I married an angel” and has their wedding date on the back. Meme was unable to have children of her own so they adopted a little girl in 1956, this is what the baby shoe represents. There is a picture charm of their adopted daughter, Nobelene, which was added on September 25, 1957, which was Nobelene’s first birthday. On May 20, 1973 another picture charm was added, it was of her first grandchild whose name was Kristi. A Happy Anniversary charm was given to her on December 18 many, many years ago as another gift from her husband. Her birthday was March 14, so a Happy Birthday charm was given as another addition to her charm bracelet. A Merry Christmas charm was added on December 25, 1963. Her husband gave her the last charm for her bracelet, which says "I love you". They had been married for 62 years when her husband passed away in 2000. Meme joined him when she passed away on December 1, 2006.
Thank you for letting me tell her charm bracelet story; Meme touched lives and was loved by many people.
