February's birthstone is amethyst, a purple or violet gemstone. The month begins under the astrologic sign of Aquarius and ends under the sign of Pisces. It is the second month of the Gregorian calendar. February was either named after the roman goddess of passion, Juno Februata, or Februus the roman god of purification.
No one is really sure why February has fewer days than other months. Some say that days were taken away from February by the Roman Emperor Augustus so that the month Julius Caesar's created, July, wouldn't have more days, but there is no historical evidence to prove this. Many scholars believe February has the least amount of days because January and February were the last months added to the Roman calendar, and due to a little calendar shuffling, February is now the second month of the year.
February's birthstone is one of the most eye-catching birthstones with it's purple hue. Chains-and-Charms.com has beautiful silver or gold February birthstone charms for charm bracelets. Encrusted with amethyst gemstones, our February birthstone charms make charm bracelets look that much better.
